Charles, founder of the Millie M. Charles School of Social Work (MMC-SSW) at Southern University New Orleans.

About Harambee! Scholarship
Following Dean Charles' passing in 2020, alumni, faculty, students, and friends of the School felt a profound sense of urgency to preserve and strengthen the institution she dedicated her life to building. Throughout her years of service, when asked about her many accomplishments, Dean Charles consistently responded:
"Anything I might have accomplished was the result of a group effort."
Inspired by her words and unwavering commitment to empowerment, advocacy, and transformation, the Harambee! Scholarship Fund was established in 2024. Its purpose is to ensure the continued growth, sustainability, and excellence of the Millie M. Charles School of Social Work.
Annual Giving Levels
Advocacy Gift $100 a year
Empowerment Gift $250 a year
Transformation Gift $500 or more a year
